Eco-Chic Weddings

I am happy to announce that I am now a member of the Green Bride Guide, the #1 green wedding website! The Green Bride Guide helps couples choose local vendors that are eco-friendly and committed to leaving as small a footprint as possible. The website has a lot of cool tips and ideas about choosing vintage accessories,  registering for green gifts, recycling/donating food and other goods after the wedding and much more. I believe it is my responsibility as a photographer and a citizen to recycle and reduce waste in both my personal and professional life.

Wedding Photojournalists Association

Wedding Photojournalists Association

I am so excited to have been accepted as a member of the Wedding Photojournalists Association (WPJA)! The WPJA is an international, membership-based organization representing professional photographers skilled in the documentation of weddings and events in a candid, unobtrusive style. The WPJA has strict membership standards regarding image quality and content, technical and creative technique, website and marketing professionalism, business ethics and communication.

The Wedding Photojournalists Association embodies everything I believe in with my photography and what I strive for on a daily basis. My goal as a wedding photographer is to capture real moments as they happen. I will never make you freeze frame a moment or unnaturally “cheese” for the camera. The only time I will tell you what to do or where to stand is during the formal portraits. I want the bride and groom to be themselves and with a photojournalistic style I can capture the life and spirit of the day as it unfolds.

Melanie and Christian’s Foothills Wedding- Phoenix, Arizona

Foothills Golf Club Wedding

Melanie and Christian were married in front of friends and family on a beautiful sunny March afternoon. Melanie and Christian live in South Carolina and had their destination wedding at The Foothills Golf Club in Ahwautkee. Family traveled from all over the country to join this amazing couple for their wedding. Melanie was so sweet to share her home town with me by giving me a coffee table book all about Charleston, South Carolina. I wish Melanie and Christian nothing but the best as they start their life together.

Many thanks to Laurie Stricklin at Foothills for all her help and coordination.

Behind the scenes at the Bridal Fashion Debut

Thank you to everyone who stopped by my booth this past weekend during the Bridal Fashion Debut at the Phoenix Convention Center. It was a long but rewarding couple of days. I met so many wonderful couples and talked many other great wedding vendors.
Putting together a booth for a bridal show takes months of preparation. Everything from the photos on display to the information on my brochures is carefully considered. This bridal show I was excited to premiere my new album choices.
For brides the show is the perfect opportunity to connect with the people who are going to help you make your wedding day unique and forever memorable.
For anyone interested I am happy to set up a free personal consultation. Please contact me for more details. I will be announcing the winner of my free engagement session drawing at the end of the week!
Thank you to my husband and second shooter, David Wallace, for his help at the show.

Seeing each other before the wedding

Seeing each other before the wedding

When I  start working with a couple on their photography timeline for the wedding the first question I ask is if the they are planning on seeing each other before the ceremony. This information is critical for planning enough time to take all the formal portraits. When a couple agrees to see each other before the ceremony we can often take care of all the family pictures before the wedding.

Traditionally the first time the couple sees each other is as the bride walks down the aisle. This tradition started back when the bride and groom literally saw each other for the first time EVER at the ceremony. To see each other or not is personal decision that ever couple must make together.

For those couples that are excited to see each other before the wedding I recommend a private reveal. The reveal is a personal and intimate moment between the bride and groom (and photographer). The groom can take in the radiance of his bride without sharing her with all the other wedding guests. It is also time when the couple can relax together and enjoy each others company before being surrounded by friends and family. I don’t believe that when the bride and groom see each other before the ceremony it takes anything away from the wedding or the spectacular moment when the bride walks down the aisle.

As a photographer I am unobtrusive and try to give the bride and groom some space so that they feel alone together. Whether before or during the wedding ceremony I love to watch the groom’s face light up at the sight of his beloved for the first time.
