Lindsay and Alex’s Scottsdale desert wedding

Scottsdale desert wedding pictures

I couldn’t have asked to photograph a wedding for a nicer couple. Lindsay and Alex where married at Sassi in Scottsdale, Arizona on a perfectly cloudless late summer day. The ceremony was emotional and sweet with a few tears. It is so clear that Lindsay and Alex are best friends. My favorite moment during the wedding reception was when Alex took the microphone from the band and sang to his bride! I wish Lindsay and Alex many years of happiness together!

Chris and Nicole’s windy Scottsdale engagement session

Nicole and Chris know how to laugh together and their playfulness is contagious. I had such a good time photographing their engagement pictures on a very windy and overcast afternoon. Hair was flying everywhere but Nicole took it in stride and I love how these pictures turnout out. I can’t wait for their wedding later this year!

Kelli and Kyle’s Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort wedding

Kelli and Kyle’s wedding was stylish and intimate at the Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain. After a short but sweet ceremony we walked around the resort for a fun photo shoot as guests mingled during cocktail hour. Its impossible to take a bad photograph of this couple! Congratulations to Kelli and Kyle and all of your beautiful kids.

The New York Times photography assignment & Sunday centerpiece: “A Dying Young Woman’s Hope in Cryonics and a Future”

In my career as a photojournalist I am often asked what is the most interesting thing I have ever photographed. This has always proven to be something I have never been able to wholeheartedly answer. I have had many unique experiences and have met many fascinating people over the years but there was not that one defining moment or assignment. This changed when I met 23 year old Kim Suozzi and her boyfriend Josh for an assignment for The New York Times. I was allowed in to document the most intimate, strange, optimistic and heartbreaking final days of Kim’s life. Kim was dying of cancer and made the unique choice of freezing her brain with the hope that one day technology and science will allow her to “live”  and “think” again. I first met Kim and Josh and some of Kim’s family and friends at the hospice where Kim was staying. She was awake, alert, talking and smiling. I photographed her a second time, 10 days later, in an apartment in Scottsdale the day before she died. I witnessed Josh taking beautiful care of her in those final hours. Driving home that evening I knew she did not have long to live. The next morning I was called before sunrise that Kim had passed away and the cryogenics team was on their way to set in motion the process of saving Kim’s brain for preservation. As I watched the procedure to save and freeze Kim’s brain I felt both sadness and hope for her future. This story ran as a Sunday A1 centerpiece in The New York Times on September 13, 2015.

Natalie and Mike’s Hotel Valley Ho wedding- Scottsdale, Arizona

Natalie and Mike’s wedding at the Hotel Valley Ho in Scottsdale felt both classic and contemporary, modern and timeless. Their wedding was also a lively joyful celebration. They had a beautiful ceremony in the round and I loved the look on Mike’s face as he watched Natalie walk down the aisle with her father. This wedding had just about the best dance party I have been to in a long time. With the exception of the first dance and parent dances I don’t think there was a slow song played all night! Congratulations Natalie and Mike!
