How to choose a wedding photographer?

choose

As a bridesmaid in my friend Christine’s wedding I could not
help but take pictures, even while doing my bridesmaid duties.

Being a professional wedding photographer is more than simply owning a camera. Having the right equipment is obviously important but a good wedding photographer also must have an eye for composition and light, problem-solving and communication skills and the ever-important ability to go with the flow!

Choosing the right photographer for your wedding can be a bit overwhelming. There are a lot of choices out there and every photographer has their own style and way of doing business. Once you find a wedding photographer’s work that you love it is important to meet that photographer in person (or at least over the phone if you are planning a destination wedding). You will be spending one of the most important days of your life with the photographer and you want to be able click with them. Remember personality, style and overall spirit matters! When you find the wedding photographer that is right for you you will never regret the investment.

When sifting through the portfolios and websites notice the type of wedding photographer you gravitate towards. Is it someone with a documentary style? Artistic approach? Traditional portraits? Once you know what you want it is easier to start narrowing your focus.

Here are a few commonly asked questions I get:

  • Are you the photographer who will be shooting my wedding?

Yes, when you book with me you get me. You have hired me because you like my style and personality not some random stranger.

  • How many weddings do you book on a day?

I am only human and will never double book a day. All of my energy and attention is focused on one couple at a time. No one wins with a double booking.

  • What equipment do you use and do you have back up gear?

I shoot with professional Nikon digital equipment. I have a variety of lenses and I carry multiple cameras, flashes, flash cards and accessories.

  • What photography services do can you provide for my wedding?

I offer a variety of price points from full service packages to a la carte options. I also shoot engagement portraits, Trash the Dress sessions, bridal portraits, rehearsal dinners, boudoir, dress fittings, bridal showers and bachelor and bachelorette parties.

  • Can I see a complete wedding that you have shot?

I would be happy to meet with you and show you examples of a complete wedding. This also gives you an opportunity to see the various wedding album options.

  • Do you charge a fee if the wedding and reception are at more than one location? What if we want to go to a third location for pictures?

I book weddings by the amount of time you want me on the day of your wedding, not by location. There are no hidden charges for multiple locations within the Valley.

  • If the packages are not what I am looking for, would you be willing to try to customize a package for me that is within my budget?

I am happy to customize any of my packages to fit your specific needs. I understand that what is important to one couple may not be important to another couple. Maybe you are not interested in me photographing the rehearsal dinner but would love photographs of your dress fitting or you know you want to Trash the Dress after the wedding instead of an engagement session. Just let me know and I will create a personal package!
