Fresh from her hair and makeup trial Marnel looked beautiful for her and Mark’s engagement session. They wanted photos that felt like Arizona, prickly trees and all so I think we accomplished that! I love that Mark and Marnel came prepared for their photo shoot with two outfits and a change of shoes so that we could go on a mini photo hike adventure complete with a cave built for two.
It always makes me happy when a couple tells me at the end of a shoot that the experience was a lot more fun and not awkward like they were expecting. I would never have guessed Tim and Michelle had any camera apprehension because they were such naturals in front of my lens.
Driving north on 17 I watched as a dark storm rolled over the desert headed straight for me. By the time the rain and pellet sized hail got to me around Camp Verde visibility on the highway wasn’t more than a few yards. As the rain passed and I drove out of the storm, it’s general westward direction was a little worrying since I was meeting Stephanie and Jeff for their engagement session in Sedona. We were all driving up from the Valley and no one wanted rain. Clouds yes, overcast OK, but not a down pour. I met up with Stephanie and Jeff at Tlaquepaque and we seriously lucked out without a drop of rain the rest of the evening. By the end of our shoot on a vista overlooking the red rock formations of Sedona below, the flat cool light made Stephanie and Jeff look like they were standing in front of a painting.

No two downtown Phoenix engagement sessions are ever the same with so many different places to explore. I love to search out color and texture as backdrops for my photographs. Tatiana and Luis are such a sweet and easy going couple. They both have wonderful smiles that light up the pictures.
Amanda and Bill had a lot of good ideas about where to take their engagement pictures but the idea I liked the most was incorporating downtown Chandler where they met and had their first date. I can always find good locations for portraits but I love it when the place itself has sentimental value. After this shoot I am psyched for their wedding in the fall!
